v1.12.0 official release notes
Published May 20, 2026 (written alongside the v1.12.0 release)
Hi everyone,
Octoclip has been a small-team, paid-supported product built for the long haul since day one. During the closed and open beta, we unlocked every feature to refine the product; with the official v1.12.0 release, Octoclip moves into its intended Free + Paid structure as planned. This note covers how paid plans work.
Pre-sale customers: see the dedicated pre-sale purchase guide.
1. Paid plans (one-time purchase, no subscription)
- One-time purchase — pay once, no subscription (see the pricing page).
- All paid licenses include 1 year of updates. Paid features you unlock during that period keep working after it ends. Once it expires, renew (purchase a new license) to unlock new features in later releases.
- Standard License and Plus License include exactly the same features. The only difference is license-activated device count (2 vs. 5).
- A limited-time launch discount is on now; see prices and the deadline on the pricing page.
2. Free vs. paid entitlements (aligned with pricing)
Free (free forever) includes:
- Cross-device copy and paste
- Clip history, search and Quick Input, collections, and aliases — all at the basic tier
- Cloud Sync: starter access (WebDAV / S3 supported; data stays in your own cloud)
- Nearby Sync: basic connection
Clip data beyond the Free quota isn't deleted because of the limit — it stays on your device, and a paid license unlocks access to it.
Paid licenses (Standard / Plus — same features) unlock on activated devices:
- Full clip history, search and Quick Input, collections, and aliases
- Full Cloud Sync (WebDAV / S3)
- Unlimited Nearby Sync connected devices
- License-activated device count: 2 (Standard) or 5 (Plus)
Note: Nearby Sync connected devices (how many devices can sync nearby) and license-activated devices (how many devices can enable the paid features above) are two separate limits — see the pricing FAQ.
When is paying worth it?
- You sync frequently across 2 or more devices
- Your everyday clip needs exceed the Free tier's quick-access and Cloud Sync quotas
- You want full use of search, collections, aliases, and other organizing tools
3. 14-day trial
So you can fully evaluate whether the paid version fits you, we offer a 14-day free trial: enter the activation code OCTOCLIP-WELCOME under Settings → License to get the same feature set as a paid license.
When the trial ends you automatically return to Free — the app keeps working and your local data is preserved. If you purchase during the trial, you still get the limited-time launch discount; trying it out won't cost you the deal.
Special thanks to everyone who stuck with us through the beta. This code is a token of our appreciation — we hope you keep finding Octoclip valuable in the official release.
4. Older versions
We won't force older versions offline. A note, though: cross-device clip sync mainly runs on your own S3 / WebDAV or direct LAN paths — we don't host your clip content; license activation, update checks, and similar flows may still use our services. Older builds on the same major version can usually keep syncing with each other under the same sync setup; however, sync protocol compatibility across major versions or between older and newer builds is not guaranteed. If you use multiple devices, we recommend upgrading to v1.12.0 or the same major version.
One last thing
Octoclip is built by a 3-person team. No outside funding, and the team isn't drawing a salary right now — we do this because we use it every day ourselves, and we believe some people will find it worth paying for.
One-time purchase, your data in your own cloud, your local data always yours — it's the most restrained way to build a business that we could think of. We hope it's a fair deal for you too.
If you choose to pay, thank you; if you stay on Free, you're welcome here too. Pricing, features, bugs — all feedback is welcome in the community.
— The Octoclip Team
